Actress Rose Leslie has explained how marriage to her Game of Thrones co-star, Kit Harrington inspired her performance in her new show, The Time Traveller's Wife.
The 35-year old stars alongside Theo James - best known for his role as 'Four' in The Divergent Series of films - in the screen adaptation of Audrey Niffenegger's 2003 novel of the same name, which debuts on Sunday on HBO Max.
Rose has been married to 35-year-old Kit since 2018 and together they welcomed their first child, a son, in 2021 – with the actress explaining how her life changes have affected her acting style.
"I think being in a relationship and knowing that you have a supportive partner can only lend itself to feeling more secure in in yourself, and therefore, hopefully, kind of growing together into two people who are more anchored," she explained to Extra.
Theo, meanwhile, who married actress Ruth Kearney within a couple of months of his new co-star's wedding, added: "I definitely think being married…having children, having, you know, being a little bit hopefully older and wiser that enables you to inform a story like this.
"I think it would have been harder, for me at least, to play this part when I was younger because I was too much more of the younger Henry, you know?"
Rose then explained how character chemistry would have been different to that of the 2009 feature film of the same name, which starred Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams, as it was produced episodically.
"We have more time to kind of delve into the characters and who they are and the kind of intricacies that they then have with one another," she explained.
Along with husband Kit, the pair keep their home life very private. They welcomed their son into the world in February last year, but have never publicly revealed his name.
Last month, however, Rose gave a rare insight into their parenting dynamic.
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she said: "He (Kit) wore the BabyBjorn (baby carrier) loud and proud.
"And there were many satisfying moments; we had an understanding that, when our son cried in the middle of the night, it was on Kit to go and look after him, as I would have to wake up early to work – it was kind of glorious."
