Roscommon GAA forced to change crest over wrong breed of sheep

Roscommon GAA are set to change their crest after it was revealed they have the wrong breed sheep in their famous logo.

Roscommon may no longer be in the 2023 GAA Championship after they were dumped out by Cork and fans can expect a facelift of their crest in the coming seasons.

It has come to the attention of the Roscommon County board that the wrong breed sheep has appeared on their logo with local sheep breeders raising the issue.

The Roscommon Sheep is one of two breeds of native Irish sheep in Ireland and had a white face but the Roscommon logo has a sheep with a black face.

And County board chairman Brian Carroll told the Sunday Independent: "That’s something we’re doing at the moment. If it can be changed, and I can’t see why not, then we will be changing.

“We replace the jerseys pretty much on an annual basis. And so we would have to get the crest redesigned — and I suppose it will take a bit of time to phase it out.

“Roscommon is a very proud county and anything we can do we will do it. We would like to get it properly done and have a bit of uniformity to it.”
