Beauty queen Rosanna Davison has revealed her surrogate is sheltering in her home with her daughter as Russian troops surround the city of Kherson where she lives.
The former Miss World welcomed her first daughter Sophia via gestational surrogacy to a woman in Ukraine back in 2019.
The pair have always kept in touch – and Rosanna has opened up her home to her but says her surrogate feels she is unable to leave her home.
She told us: “I spoke to her the day before yesterday, and she said things are still bad where she is. She’s still sheltering with her family and Russia has taken her city of Kherson.”
Mum-of-three Rosanna said it’s a “constant worry”.
“She feels that she’s unable to leave but she knows that she has a home to come to in Ireland if and when she can safely leave with her daughter.
“It’s a constant worry but all I can do for now is to keep on checking that she’s OK and safe.”
Their surrogate is like family to Rosanna and Wes, who feel Sophia is part Ukrainian.
They want her to share their home in Cabinteely, Dublin, where they live with Sophia and her younger twin brothers, Oscar and Hugo, who were born a year later by natural birth to Rosanna.
The daughter of singer Chris De Burgh said the situation is “unimaginable”.
“I think at the moment she just feels it’s safer to shelter with others than to try to escape with a small child. It’s been great to read stories of people opening their homes to Ukrainian families,” she added.
Rosanna revealed last week that she invited her Ukraine surrogate to live with her, Wes and her family.
“I’ve invited our Ukraine surrogate to come to Ireland to live with us,” she said when she shared a news article titled ‘Irish families hoping to bring Ukrainian surrogate mothers to Ireland’ to her Instagram story.
She also made a huge donation of baby goods.
“Sorting through piles of baby stuff, unsurprisingly we have quite a lot of stuff at home. Just for supplies to drop off to be sent to Ukraine tomorrow.
“Things like nappies, these I’d forgotten we had that are too small for them, lots of cotton wool, hygiene supplies, loads of blankets, bottle warmers, loads and loads of bottles that were never used as well.
“Gave them all even more cuddles than normal today after reading about some of the horrors happening to innocent families in Ukraine. Unbearable sadness.
She said: “Irish people are incredibly generous from what I’ve heard and seen over the last week; they are helping and doing everything they can.
“The next step will be to take in Ukrainian refugees and do what we can as part of Europe.
“We all need to step up and do what we can. The Ukrainians are good people and they want to lead a peaceful life as much as we do in Ireland.
“It’s such a desperately sad situation for everyone and myself and Wes are heartbroken. Ukraine is part of Sophia’s history, it’s where she was born, we grew so fond of Kyiv as a city.
“Its horrifying having spent a lot of time there a few years ago."
