Rory McIlroy once again took aim at the controversial Saudi-backed LIV Golf Series after winning his third FedEx Cup, stating that he 'hates' what it is doing to the sport.
McIlroy claimed £15.36 million in prize money after completing a stunning single shot win over world number one Scottie Scheffler at East Lake Golf Club. And the 33-year-old spoke out in support of the PGA tour following his win, before turning his attention to LIV and golf's ongoing civil war.
Speaking during the trophy presentation, McIlroy said: "I believe in the game of golf. I believe in this tour, in particular.
"I believe in the players on this tour. It's the greatest place in the world to play golf, bar none, and I've played all over."
McIlroy then admitted at the post-event press conference that it is 'going to be hard to stomach' playing alongside 18 LIV golfers at the BMW PGA Championship next week.
"If you believe in something I think you have to speak up, and I believe very strongly about this," he added. "I really do. I hate what it's doing to the game of golf. I hate it. I really do.
"It's going to be hard for me to stomach going to Wentworth and seeing 18 of them there. That just doesn't sit right with me.
"So yes, I feel strongly. I believe what I'm saying are the right things, and I think when you believe that what you're saying is the right things, you're happy to stick your neck out on the line."
In response to LIV, McIlroy and Tiger Woods have led proposals for a brand-new format to be introduced alongside the PGA Tour in 2024. The TGL is a new technology inspired golf-league which has been created by TMRW Sports, a new company set up by McIlroy and Woods, will see team tournaments take place in stadiums.
