Rory McIlroy to form part of committee that will decide on LIV deal

The PGA Tour has announced that a player's group which includes Rory McIlroy will have a say on the logistics surrounding the deal with LIV Golf.

Earlier this month, a deal was struck between the PGA Tour and the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia - LIV's bankrollers - that would see the PGA, LIV and the DP World Tour operate under the same umbrella.

On Monday, further details of the deal were reported by various media outlets and contained information on how LIV players would be re-integrated into the PGA Tour, how World Ranking points would be distributed along with what form LIV may take in the future.

News of the deal between PGA and LIV was announced on June 6th and caused shockwaves to reverberate throughout the sport. A number of players said they were blindsided by the deal, with McIlroy revealing that he only found out about the deal on the morning of the announcement.

Many players have called for greater transparency after being kept in the dark by the PGA Tour. A number of player meetings have been held in the weeks since the announcement and it has been reported that the PGA Tour has agreed to give player directors the final say on how LIV and PGA will work in unison.

These directors include McIlroy along with the likes of Patrick Cantlay, Webb Simpson and Charley Hoffman among others.

In response to these reports, the PGA Tour issued the following statement:

"Entering the framework agreement put an end to costly litigation. Management, with input from our player directors, has now begun a new phase of negotiations to determine if the tour can reach a definitive agreement that is in the best interests of our players, fans, sponsors, partners, and the game overall.

"If future negotiations lead to a proposed agreement, it would need approval by the tour's policy board, which includes player directors. In the meantime, we are all committed to the safeguards in the framework agreement that ensure the PGA Tour would lead and maintain control of this potential new commercial entity."
