Rory McIlroy's wife expecting their first child - and it's due 'any day now'

Rory McIlroy's wife Erica is pregnant with their first child - and due is to give birth to a baby girl any day.

The golfing superstar and his American partner have kept the pregnancy a secret.

But the news was revealed during the television broadcast of the third round of the BMW Championship, where McIlroy is in contention today.

The Golf Channel's Steve Sands revealed that a baby girl is due "any day now".

McIlroy, 31, married American Erica at a lavish reception at Ashworth Castle in Mayo in 2017.

The Holywood man met Erica Stoll when she was working for the PGA of America.

And Erica famously helped McIlroy when the four-time major winner overslept and nearly missed his tee time at the 2012 Ryder Cup. They started dating in 2015.

The news may explain why McIlroy has struggled on the fairways of late. He admitted last week that he was struggling to focus on the course and find his best form.

He said: "This is going to sound really bad, but I feel like the last few weeks, I've just been going through the motions."

The couple have not made the pregnancy public and it remains to be seen if it will mean McIlroy misses next week's lucrative Tour Championship.

McIlroy currently has a great chance of winning the $15 million bonus if he wins the FedEx Cup in a weeks' time - a trophy he won in 2019.

He has said that his wife likes to give a low profile and be away from the spotlight

“Erica has been around me quite a lot at tournaments but we have really just tried to keep it low key,” he told The Independent last year.

“She is a very low key person, not the kind to broadcast stuff, but that side of my life is really good just now.

“The thing I love about it is that we were friends before anything romantic happened.

”I found it refreshing being with someone who was living a normal life rather than, 'Oh! My jet is 30 minutes late!’”
