When I woke up today, I thought it was just an average Monday. Boy, was I wrong. Things are absolutely popping the fuck off in the golf world as the babygirl of golf Rory McIlroy just went up against Justin Rose to win the Masters Championship in a sudden death playoff — and he fkn WON.
The Masters win means McIlroy finally completes a career Grand Slam, with the Masters win eluding him for years. The world number two fell to his knees when he sunk the winning putt, before walking off to find his family in emotional scenes.
Unlike the other big golf tournaments, the Masters Championship employs a sudden-death playoff format. This means that if two or more players are tied after 72 holes of regulation golf, they have to compete in a playoff until one person scores lower than the other.
That, my friends, is what has occurred at the Masters Championship in Augusta mere minutes ago. Both Rory and Justin Rose scored -11, creating the first sudden-death round in the Championship since 2017.

The reason why was such a HUGE deal is that by taking out the Masters Championship, Rory doesn’t just get to add a chic green jacket to his wardrobe — he joins the history books.
You see, Rory is already one of the best golfers in the world. He’s spent a considerable amount of time as the world number one in the Official World Golf Rankings (100 weeks!!!!) and is a four-time major champion. The only big golf tournament he hasn’t won?
The Masters Championship — the most prestigious golf tournament in the world.
By winning the Masters, the beloved Irishman has locked down a Grand Slam by winning every major golf championship in the world. This means he is officially known as an elite golfer and joins the ranks of only five other superstars who have achieved this: Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.
Naturally, fans of the Irish golfer are going bananas, especially since Rory has been known to choke up in important moments throughout his career. Thankfully though, this time he’s hit the goofball out of the park (figuratively).
Well, talk about an underdog story!!! I hope Rory treats himself to a nice pint of Guinness or something.
