Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods team up to launch business in first step to defeat LIV Golf

Golf icons Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods have teamed together in a new start-up company to 'make sport more accessible' for fans, as the fight between PGA Tour players and those in the rebel LIV Golf series continues.

The pair have launched TMRW Sports which says it will feature “progressive approaches to sports, media, and entertainment”. The new company is said to be partnering with the PGA Tour.

This comes after a report by Golfweek that the partnership will see the world’s top golfers competing against each other in a non-green grass, stadium environment in one-day events which would compliment existing events already on the PGA Tour calendar.

Woods, who is a 15-time major winner, has been spearheading talks with fellow PGA Tour professionals about how to win the battle against the rebel LIV Golf series.

Talking about the new business venture, he said: “I am excited to work with TMRW Sports in bringing people more access to sports. So many athletes, entertainers and people I meet from all walks of life share our passion for sports, but they also share our desire to build a better future for the next generation of sports fans. Together, we can harness technology to bring fresh approaches to the sports we love.”

It is believed that details about the new start-up company were revealed to fellow professionals in a meeting at the BMW Championship which Woods made a special trip to attend despite not competing. McIlroy, aged 33, has joined Woods in his fierce opposition against the LIV Golf series and described his long-time friend as "the hero that we've all looked up to"

Talking about the new business venture McIlroy added: “For the last few years off the course I’ve been focused on helping to lead golf into its digital future.

"In a world where technology provides us with so many choices for using our time, we want to make sports more accessible for as many people as possible.”

More details about the plan could be announced by PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan tomorrow ahead of the Tour Championship in Atlanta starting on Thursday.
