Cincinnati Bengals wideout Ja’Marr Chase has made it clear he wasn’t a fan of how the Baltimore Ravens played in the season finale and that he’ll look for a get-back during the playoff rematch.
Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith, the subject of most of the chatter from the Bengals this week, has responded to the comments.
Smith told Melissa Y. Kim of the Ravens broadcast team the following:
“I just know that I played the game the right way, and not a lot of guys respect the game the way that I respect the game so maybe they’re not used to seeing guys that finish on every single play and trying to eliminate every single extra yard…I’m going to pay as hard as I can regardless of who is in my way…”
From a sheer football perspective, it’s a fun stance for Smith to take. Suggesting the back-to-back AFC North champs and defending AFC champs aren’t accustomed to playing against opponents who finish every play is a stretch, though. Chase’s beef with Smith’s unnecessary hit after a play seemed pretty justified, too.
Regardless, the Ravens and the Bengals will settle it for good with everything at stake in the opening round of the playoffs.
