Rookie TE Davis Allen is day-to-day with hamstring injury

The Rams’ running back group took a hit with Sony Michel unexpectedly retiring on Saturday, but their tight end group is getting a bit thin, too. With Hunter Long already on the PUP list, the Rams are now without Davis Allen, too.

Sean McVay said Allen came into training camp with a hamstring injury, but it wasn’t serious enough to sideline him. After trying to manage his workload, the Rams have decided to give him some time off from practice in order to heal, so he’s day-to-day.

“He ended up getting his hamstring, so we’re going to be smart with him,” he said. “He had done it coming into camp and we were trying to just see if we could modify his workload and limit some of the different exposures in terms of what we were asking of him, but it was still just bothering him a little bit so we said let’s just let him get fully recovered and we’ll kind of monitor him day-to-day.”

The Rams selected Allen in the fifth round this year out of Clemson and he brings some potential as a receiver. He has a big catch radius with his 6-foot-6 frame, which could be particularly useful in the red zone.

Hopefully he’s able to get back on the field before the preseason begins because he doesn’t want to fall too far behind Brycen Hopkins and the other tight ends on the roster.
