Ronny Deila in furious reaction to Anderlecht chaos as Standard Liege derby clash ABANDONED due to flares

Fuming Ronny Deila slammed "disrespectful" Anderlecht fans after flares on the pitch saw Standard Liege's derby clash abandoned on Sunday.

The Norwegian has overseen an up and down start to the season in Brussels but they were on track for their eighth win of the season against their struggling rivals when all hell broke loose near the away end. Philip Zinckernagel's goal had put Deila's team 3-1 ahead when flares thrown on the pitch led the referee to abandon the game early.

As a result, Deila's side were awarded the three points but the former Celtic boss was still left furious with the behaviour from visiting fans - who were protesting their team's dreadful start to the season that now leaves them 12th in the table.

He said: "I can understand the frustration. Winning and losing are part of football, but there are also rules to respect. That is not what I saw on Sunday and that makes me sad.

"I have never experienced this before. It's a lack of respect for the game, for football. It does not reflect well on our league. It's a difficult situation for Anderlecht, but again, you have to respect the rules."

Deila won back to back Premiership titles while in charge at Celtic before heading back to Norway to manage Valerenga. A successful spell with MLS side New York City then opened the door to Standard, where he is hoping to lead them back into the Europa League this season.
