Ronan O'Gara hit with lengthy ban and hefty fine by French Rugby Union

Ronan O'Gara has been handed a 10-week ban and has been slapped with a €15,000 fine by the French Rugby Union League for 'harming the best interests in rugby.'

As a result of the ban, O'Gara will be sidelined until January 30th, 2023, and will miss the upcoming Heineken Champions Cup pool stage games against Ulster and Northampton Saints.

The Heineken Cup winning coach of La Rochelle has also been issued a suspended fine of €5,000 on top of the €15,000 penalty.

This is O'Gara's second lengthy ban of the season having only returned to the sidelines at the beginning of November. The Munster legend was handed a six-week suspension back in September after being charged with 'disrespecting the authority of a match official.'

Although the date of the incident when the fresh indiscretion took place hasn't been revealed, O'Gara has only coached one game since completing his six-week suspension. That game took place on November 5th, where La Rochelle defeated Brive 19-17.

The 128 times capped Irish legend can appeal against this fresh ban.
