Ronan Keating reveals name he wants to be called instead of 'grandad' after new arrival

Ronan Keating has addressed having become a first-time grandfather, with the singer-songwriter revealing he has another name in mind instead of being called 'grandad'.

It comes shortly after his eldest son Jack Keating, now 23, announced that he had welcomed his first child in a post that he shared on Instagram earlier this month.

The post prompted a reaction from Ronan, 46, at the time and he has now spoken about being a grandparent whilst co-hosting the One Show alongside Jermaine Jenas, 40.

The pair fronted the latest episode of the BBC chat show and after Ronan read something from the autocue, his co-host Jermaine teased: "Well said, grandad."

The remark prompted a response from Ronan on the show, with him saying: "Oi!". Former professional footballer Jermaine commented back: "You're a grandad now".

Ronan responded: "I am. Yes, my son had a gorgeous baby." He added that himself and his wife Storm Keating, 41 - who is Jack's stepmother - have become "grandparents".

His co-host Jermaine suggested that Ronan would rather be referred to as something other than 'grandad', asking his colleague: "But you prefer to be called something else?"

Ronan - best known for having been in group Boyzone - went on to share his preferred name as a grandparent, with him commenting: "Uh, Pops. We'll go with that. Perfect".

It comes after Jack - who is the eldest of Ronan's three kids with his ex-wife Yvonne Connolly, 49 - announced recently that he had welcomed a daughter.

Jack - who was on Love Island last year - shared a black-and-white photo of himself cradling the newborn baby and wrote: "Welcome to the world my little [princess emoji]".

Ronan - who has two children with his second wife Storm - was among those who took to the comments section. The father-of-five wrote alongside a heart emoji: "Little cutie".

His ex-wife Yvonne also responded to their son's post on the platform earlier this month. She commented: "I miss her so much already". Yvonne included several heart emojis.

The One Show airs weekdays on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 7pm.
