Ronaldo's rage and four more missed moments from Manchester United win vs Brentford

Manchester United managed to put a happy ending onto a disastrous season as they defeated Brentford 3-0 in their final match of the campaign at Old Trafford.

Though United still have trips to Brighton and Crystal Palace to play, a quirk in the fixture list due to Chelsea's participation in the FA Cup final means that they have now played their final home game. Thankfully, Ralf Rangnick's side managed to put an end to their winless run with a good display against the Bees.

It was one of United's best home performances of the season as Juan Mata's inclusion in the starting XI made them look like a more cohesive attacking unit. It was Bruno Fernandes who scored the opener, though, as he volleyed in Anthony Elanga's cross.

Cristiano Ronaldo thought he'd doubled the lead before VAR ruled it out for off-side but the Portuguese did grab his 24th goal of the season from the spot in the second half. In contrast, Raphael Varane got just his first goal for the club to round off the scoring, powering in a header from Alex Telles' corner.

Here are five moments you may have missed from the match.

1 - Neville has a fan!

Before the match, the Sky cameras focused on a United fan who had a scarf with Gary Neville's face upon it drooped over his shoulders. With Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher in the studio, there was some unsurprising shock that their broadcast colleague had such a fan at Old Trafford. "There must have been a sale," Keane said as Carragher laughed in disbelief.

2 - Eriksen gets a warm reception from Stretford End

It's an illustrious list of opposition players that have received a round of applause from the Old Trafford crowd and Christian Eriksen has joined the list. The Dane has made a remarkable return to football at Brentford this year after recovering from suffering a heart attack on the pitch when playing for his country during Euro 2020.

The United faithful showed their respects to Eriksen by giving him a warm round of applause as he approached the Stretford End to take a corner early on in the match. A lovely touch.

3 - Anti-Glazer sentiment continues

The fan base's continued discontent at the club's owners was evident at Old Trafford on Monday. There have been protests at the previous two home matches and that continued. It took just five minutes for the first anti-Glazer chant to be sung, with fans chanting 'stand up if you hate Glazers.' There were plenty more chants of that nature throughout the night.

A walkout was planned for the 73rd minute and while there were banners, flares and an increase of 'we want Glazers out' chants, there wasn't a mass exodus. A few fans headed for the exits but the vast majority stayed to enjoy the win.

4 - Ronaldo raging

United enjoyed one of their best halves in months in the opening 45 minutes against Brentford, with the intricate Mata stitching together plenty of good attacks. The Spaniard teed up Ronaldo perfectly for what appeared to be the second goal before it was disallowed.

Predictably, the decision did not go down well with Ronaldo who was visibly fuming for some time after the match got back underway. Even as the players made their way through the tunnel for the start of the second half he was still deep in discussion with the referee. No one takes a goal away from him without a fight!

5 -Standing ovation for Matic and Mata

Nemanja Matic was one of several players who were likely appearing at Old Trafford in a red shirt for the final time on Monday. The Serbian put in another excellent displaying in the middle of the park, with some lovely crisp passing, and was taken off on the 70th minute mark for a returning Fred.

Matic received a standing ovation from the Old Trafford crowd as well as his teammates, with Ronaldo giving him a hug before he left the pitch, and the staff in the dug-out.

Mata was then taken off a few minutes later and he too received a standing ovation after his brilliant final appearance at Old Trafford. A fitting farewell for both men.
