Ronaldo missed the club's summer tour, but has returned to Carrington and look set to feature against Spanish opponents — alongside promising youngsters and fringe players.

Goalkeeper - Tom Heaton
United still want to sign a back-up goalkeeper to offset Dean Henderson leaving on loan. When that happens, Tom Heaton might find chances limited, so this will be a priceless opportunity for him.

Having watched Christian Eriksen make his first appearance for United on Saturday afternoon, the meeting with Rayo Vallecano could present Lisandro Martinez with a similar opportunity. Eriksen wowed United supporters during his 20-minute cameo in Oslo and there is every chance the Dane will play more minutes here, but will that be from the start? If so, he would add vital experience to a midfield trio that also features academy graduates James Garner and Zidane Iqbal, who impressed while on tour.
Forwards - Jadon Sancho, Cristiano Ronaldo, Alejandro Garnacho
Ronaldo was always going to take centre stage upon his return to Carrington and there are lingering questions over his future. However, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner will need minutes if he stays. Jadon Sancho was taken ill before the Atletico game and could flank Ronaldo if he's fit and well, along with Alejandro Garnacho.
