On Tuesday, Ronald L. Rowe, Jr. was appointed as the acting Secret Service director after the resignation of Kimberly Cheatle. This decision was announced by Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.
Rowe, a 24-year veteran of the Secret Service, has been serving as the Deputy Director of the agency since April 2023. Prior to this role, he held various leadership positions within the Secret Service, including Assistant Director for the Office of Intergovernmental and Legislative Affairs and Deputy Assistant Director for the Office of Protective Operations.
In a statement, Secretary Mayorkas expressed his appreciation for Rowe's willingness to lead the Secret Service during this challenging period. He highlighted the importance of the agency's ongoing investigations and cooperation with Congressional oversight in light of recent events on July 13.
Mayorkas emphasized the critical role of the Secret Service in providing 24/7 protection for national leaders and visiting dignitaries, as well as securing events of national significance in the current dynamic and heightened threat environment.
Rowe's appointment comes at a crucial time for the Secret Service as it navigates through internal changes and external pressures. His extensive experience within the agency positions him well to lead the Secret Service effectively in fulfilling its mission amidst evolving security challenges.
