In his most recent appearance on “The Don Geronimo Show,” Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera gave a positive injury update of rookie running back Brian Robinson Jr.
Robinson, who was shot on Aug. 29 in Washington, D.C. during an attempted carjacking, is now off crutches, according to Rivera, and the swelling in his knee has gone down “an awful lot.”
Robinson, a third-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft, essentially won the starting running back job in the preseason. When Washington released its initial 53-man roster, the Commanders included Robinson but later placed him on the non-football injury list, meaning he will miss at least the first four games of the 2022 season.
The Commanders open the season on Sunday when the Jacksonville Jaguars come to FedEx Field. Antonio Gibson will resume his position as Washington’s starting running back, while J.D. McKissic will handle third-down duties.
