Ron Gordon drops Hibs hint that he got it WRONG in sacking Jack Ross

Hibs owner Ron Gordon has vowed to back Lee Johnson with resources and time - after hinting he got it wrong in sacking Jack Ross.

Ross was fired after in December after two years in charge with the club sitting seventh but having taken them into the final of the Premier Sports Cup only two weeks earlier.

He had led them to a top three finish for the first time in 16 years the previous season but after being replaced by Shaun Maloney - who himself was fired after just four months in April - Hibs finished a miserable season eighth.

Gordon admits the last season has created instability at Easter Road.

Asked if lessons had been learned particularly over the sacking of Ross, Gordon said: “I could reassess that but I’d have to say yes.

“There were lessons for me and important lessons for me.

“I don’t want to say I’m not going to make mistakes going forward but the truth of the matter is that perhaps I’d reevaluate some of the decisions that we made.

“That’s water over the dam at this point. We just move forward.

“We might have come to the same decisions but we’ve an instability which is not good.”

After an extensive hunt for a new manager spanning over four weeks, Gordon has promised Johnson backing in the summer window.

He said: “We want success and that has to come with a commitment on our part from a resource and investment perspective.

“We’re making all kinds of investment to grow the club and take it to the next level.

“We certainly need to do that on the pitch.

“If you look at Lee’s track record it’s quite outstanding. Almost every club he’s left in a better place than the day he arrived.

“We definitely want stability. I’d love for him to be here four years and longer. It would mean we are doing things right, we’re having success.

“It’s hard to build a top notch organisation if the floor is moving and that’s what we’ve had on the football side a little bit.

“Hopefully this will stabilise the club and we’re on our way to greener pastures.”
