Romeo Beckham set to face international team in warm-up for Euro 2024 qualifier

Romeo Beckham is set to play against Ukraine in a friendly match ahead of England’s Euro 2024 qualifier match later this month.

Romeo, who is the second eldest child of David and Victoria Beckham, plays for Brentford’s B team. The 20-year-old joined the Premier League club’s feeder team in January in a loan switch from Inter Miami II in the MLS Next Pro.

He has made a good impact in west London, with manager Neil MacFarlane hailing the youngster's "unbelievable impact" during a victory over Erith & Belvedere in January. Romeo, who plays as a midfielder, scored his first goal for the club in a Middlesex Senior Challenge Cup game against Wealdstone last month.

And, according to The Sun, he will have the opportunity to impress against stellar opponents when Brentford’s B team host Ukraine in a behind-closed-doors friendly on March 23. Brentford have opened up their training ground to Ukraine, who are due to play England at Wembley in a Euro 2024 qualifier on March 25.

Ukraine will get ready for that clash by playing Brentford’s B team. Ruslan Rotan's side have decided to come and train in London, with the match against England their only fixture of the upcoming international break.

They have previously been based in Poland, due to the ongoing war to fight off the invading Russians, but will make Brentford their temporary home later this month. Ukraine plan to stay for a week in the west of the capital, which won’t feel too unfamiliar for four of their squad.

Ukraine’s squad includes Arsenal full-back Oleksandr Zinchenko, Chelsea winger Mykhaylo Mudryk, Everton left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko and Bournemouth defender Illya Zabarnyi. They could all feature against Romeo’s Brentford side.

David Beckham could well be in attendance for the game given that he has been a regular watcher of his son since he made the temporary switch to west London. The 47-year-old was there to see his debut against Erith & Belvedere in January and was there at Woking alongside his daughter Harper to see Romeo help his side beat Aston Villa 3-2.

Romeo has earned rave reviews from his Brentford B boss MacFarlane so far. “Romeo really drove us forward in the wing back position,” he said after his debut in January.

“He created some really good moments for us with some terrific deliveries. He had an opportunity to score as well and I was thrilled with him and the group in general for keeping on the front foot. We never gave up and we got through.”

England will kick off their qualifying campaign for Euro 2024 with a match against Italy in Naples on March 23 before facing Ukraine two days later. They will then face the other two sides in their Group C, Malta and North Macedonia, in June.
