Romelu Lukaku has already dropped Paris Saint-Germain clue amid £97m Chelsea transfer rumours

Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku has already hinted at his admiration of Paris Saint-Germain as questions over his long-term Stamford Bridge future persist. The Belgian only returned to west London in a club record £97m deal last summer from Inter Milan but things haven’t quite gone as expected for the striker.

After hitting 30 goals in his final season in Italy, he has only found the net on 12 occasions in all competitions this term - just five of those strikes coming in the Premier League. He has been in and out of Thomas Tuchel ’s starting XI, with Kai Havertz regularly preferred.

That has seen Lukaku ’s future at Stamford Bridge called into question, with the Belgian regularly being linked with a move back to former club Inter. Now though, he appears to have fresh admiration in the form of Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.

Football Insider have claimed that the French outfit are interested in making a move for his services as they attempt to refresh their forward line. Kylian Mbappe is out of contract at the end of the season and looks likely to move to Real Madrid, whilst Neymar, Angel Di Maria and Lionel Messi are all on the wrong side of 30.

Whether that leads to a move for Lukaku remains to be seen but it is clear that the Belgian is a fan of how the Ligue 1 side operates. He was previously linked with a move to the Parc des Princes during his time as an Everton player and did nothing to hide his admiration.

Speaking with GQ Magazine back in 2016, he said: “PSG is a big club, with a magnificent project and a world-class workforce. But everything is in the hands of my agent.”

Lukaku of course did end up leaving Goodison Park but his destination was little closer than Paris. He eventually signed for Manchester United in a £75m deal and stayed at Old Trafford for two seasons, netting 42 goals in 96 matches before departing for Inter.

Upon returning to Chelsea, Lukaku penned a deal until the summer of 2026. He could still end the season as a multiple trophy winner with the Blues still in the Champions League, as well as the FA Cup.
