Romelu Lukaku is heading back to Inter Milan after the Italian giants agreed a £7million loan fee with Chelsea.
The switch for the 29-year-old Belgian ends a nightmare ten months at Stamford Bridge following his £100million from the San Siro last summer. The two clubs concluded talks on Tuesday with Lukaku adamant that wanted out of Stamford Bridge this summer in order to play regularly ahead of the Qatar World Cup later this year.
It is understood Inter will pay all of his wages but will not have any obligation to buy him during or after his loan spell.
Lukaku netted just eight goals in 26 Premier League appearances. He also wrecked his relationship irreparably with Chelsea ’s fans and boss Thomas Tuchel after his unsanctioned interview last autumn in which he criticised his team’s tactics and admitted he’d love a move back to Inter.
It made him a fringe player under Tuchel who turned to Kai Havertz as a false nine.
Tuchel argued Havertz worked far harder and was more clinical in front of goal.
The Chelsea boss is now set to conclude a £55million deal for Manchester City ’s England winger Raheem Sterling before a move for French Sevilla defender Jules Kounde.
