Roma’s Tammy Abraham suffers horror knee injury to spark fears of long lay-off

England striker Tammy Abraham faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a horror knee injury in Roma's final game of the season.

Abraham was stretchered off shortly after his introduction as a substitute in the second half against Spezia.

The striker was battling for the ball with former Chelsea team-mate Ethan Ampadu and overextended his left legg, causing him to slip and spin to the floor with his foot planted on the ground.

Abraham screamed out in pain as he spun up and around, before leaving the field on a stretcher with his head in his hands after lengthy treatment on the pitch.

Initial reports suggest Abraham has suffered an ACL injury, which could see him ruled out for the remainder of 2023 and up to nine months.

Abraham recently missed out on England's latest squad after a frustrating season in front of goal for Roma, scoring just nine goals in 53 appearances.

But the striker was poised for a big transfer this summer, with Roma reportedly ready to cash in on a player they signed from Chelsea for around £28million in 2021. Those hopes are now over.
