A routine traffic stop in California turned into a spectacle when surprised officers discovered a baby spider monkey wearing a onesie in a speeding Rolls-Royce Ghost.

On December 30, 27-year-old Ali Mused Adel Mohamed, was pulled over for speeding in Madera County, California, according to local police. He was arrested for driving under the influence, possession of cannabis for sale, and illegally owning the endangered spider monkey.

Primate ownership is strictly prohibited in California, as the animals require specialized care and are protected under endangered species laws.

The one-month-old monkey, nicknamed "Marcel," was safely taken into custody by Madera County Animal Services after the arrest.

"The monkey was safely taken by Animal Control where he will receive the proper care. Some next level monkey business! The driver was booked at the Madera County Jail and is facing several charges, including possession of an exotic animal," Madera County CHP wrote on Facebook.

Marcel has since been transferred to the Oakland Zoo for specialized care under the supervision of zookeepers experienced with exotic and endangered animals.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is handling the case to ensure Marcel receives proper long-term care.
