Rolex reward: Aussie darts ace Heta hunts Masters glory

Damon Heta has his Rolex, now the Australian is set for a quarter-final showdown with the world's top-ranked darts player Luke Humphries at the World Masters.

Heta, the roofer from Perth who is now Australia's leading player on the darts circuit, has started the season in blistering form.

The 37-year-old made global headlines with a perfect nine-dart leg against Luke Woodhouse at the world championship in late December.

Heta ultimately lost that third-round meeting, but the nine-darter was rewarded with a prize of 60,000 pounds ($A120,000) from a sponsor.

The West Australian vowed to "buy a Rolex" in the excited aftermath of the rare feat.

When the money cleared in his account during the ongoing event in Milton Keynes, Heta wasted no time in fulfilling the promise.

"My heart did skip a beat when that (the money) left my account," he said.

"Besides a house or a car, I don't think I've ever purchased something so big.

"But I had to do it because I put it out there and I said things, and I'm a man of my word, so I just went for it.

"I looked straight on the Internet - where's the closest dealer ... let's go straight there."

Heta's reward, should he win the World Masters on Monday morning (AEDT), will be a cool 100,000 pounds ($A200,000).

Englishman Humphries, who was in dominant form as he crushed Josh Rock 4-0 to cruise into the last eight, is the first imposing obstacle on a tricky path to that title.

Heta secured his spot in the quarter-finals with a 4-3 win over Gerwyn Price.

Heta is ranked eighth in the world, with world No.69 Simon 'The Wizard' Whitlock the next best Australian on the charts.

The West Australian has enjoyed an impressive rise in the sport since joining the pro circuit in 2020, winning a European Tour crown and a further seven ProTour titles.

Teenager Luke Littler, who in January became the youngest player to win the world championship at age 17, demolished former world No.2 James Wade 4-0.

Littler, who is making his World Masters debut this week, will face Jonny Clayton in his quarter-final.
