Rohan Smith has denied reports linking Leeds Rhinos with a move for Tyrone Roberts. The Rhinos are understood to have considered a shock move for the former Warrington Wolves halfback, who is currently plying his trade for Queensland Cup outfit Burleigh Bears.
With Blake Austin's future still up in the air - Smith confirmed a deal has yet to be agreed and Aidan Sezer is expected to return to Australia at the end of the season the club is thought to be on the lookout for new spine players ahead of the 2024 season.
But Smith insisted that Roberts isn't a player who will make a move to the club, despite discussing his long association with the former NRL halfback, who was his halfback when he coached the Norths Devils to success.
"I've known Tyrone since 2007 or 2008 when he'd taken himself to Newcastle," he said "We've crossed paths a few times and at the Norths Devils but that one has absolutely no truth to it. The last time I spoke to Tyrone was a couple of texts in and around the North Devils Grand Final last year when they went back-to-back. That was the extent of it. Tyrone is a great kid, I've got a lot of time for him, but we've had absolutely no correspondence as far as a contract goes, I'm not quite sure where that one has surfaced from."
