Rohan Dua thinks his questions to Manu Bhaker were ‘innocuous’

Days after being the talk of the town for asking “trivial and awkward” questions to Olympic shooter Manu Bhaker, journalist Rohan Dua has moved the Delhi High Court against social media posts calling his questions “sexist”, Bar and Bench reported.

In an interview for his digital portal The New India, Dua had asked Bhaker – who won two bronze medals in the Paris Olympics – questions purportedly attempting to link her up with fellow Olympian Neeraj Chopra.

Dua also gave Bhaker the title of “one of the most attractive females, beautiful females in India’s history of Olympics” although “not sure” if she took it “as a compliment”.

In the court, Dua said that his questions were “innocuous” and were “being asked by a lot of other journalists”. He also said that the interview had been approved by Bhaker’s team, although he did not specify if they were aware of his questions. He alleged that the social media posts “attacked his professional competence” and spread a “false narrative”.

Justice Navin Chawla, who briefly heard the matter, said that he does not know if Bhaker took offence to his comments or not and demanded her approval. The matter will be next heard on September 2.
