Roger Federer has been paired with Rafael Nadal for the final match of his professional career at the Laver Cup in London on Friday.
Federer had confirmed on Wednesday that he would only play the doubles of what is the 20-time Grand Slam champion’s farewell event.
And the 41-year-old has been granted his wish of playing alongside Nadal, the player who arguably defined Federer’s career the most.
The doubles between Team Europe and the Team World double act of Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe will be the finale of the opening day of action on Friday night.
Andy Murray has also been selected by European captain Bjorn Borg to play in the evening singles match against Australia’s Alex de Minaur.
The two matches for the afternoon session will see US Open runner-up Casper Ruud take on Sock, with Stefanos Tsitsipas facing Diego Schwartzman.
The Laver Cup is tennis’ attempt at a Ryder Cup-style tournament and spans three days of competition, from Friday to Sunday at the O2 Arena in London.
