Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has undergone successful surgery in Spain on his ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, football.london understands.
The 25-year-old ruptured the ligament in the second half of Spurs' Premier League defeat at Leicester City this month after turning his knee awkwardly during a challenge. The Uruguay international, who had scored earlier in the game, then had to wait for the swelling to subside before any further treatment could take place.
That has now happened as football.london understands Bentancur underwent successful surgery in Spain on Monday at the hands of a top surgeon and the midfielder will now begin his long rehabilitation period with Tottenham's medical staff.

He will miss the remainder of the season with the recovery time for such an injury often stated as being anywhere between seven and nine months.
Bentancur's Spurs team-mate Cristian Romero said of the midfielder this week: "We all miss him a lot. It’s a big loss for the time being but we know the player that he is.
“Right now, it’s hard, but we’re looking forward to having him back and contributing for us again. We need to prepare well going forward but, in the meantime, we wish him a speedy recovery and that he’s back soon."
Dejan Kulusevski, who arrived at Tottenham with Bentancur from Juventus a year ago, told football.london last week that he was surprised at how positive the Uruguayan was.
"Rodrigo is so strong. Not only on the pitch but outside of the pitch, he's unbelievable. He's so positive. Like I'm shocked at how he can be so positive after news like that," said the Swede.
"We will miss him on the pitch but outside the pitch he's a fantastic guy and he will do it, he'll come back stronger and I wish him a good recovery because we'll miss him on the pitch because he's an important player."
