Roddy Ricch Releases Visual For “The Box”

Roddy Ricch has found much success with his hit single, “The Box,” yet he hasn’t even dropped a visual for the track — until now. The rapper released the music video for the viral song on Friday (February 28), which is off of his debut album, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial.

Directed by Roddy Ricch (himself) and Christian Breslauer, the video begins with the Compton native at the steering wheel in a luxury car about to embark on a race. The cinematic visual shows Roddy in an array of different settings: He dunks in a high school gymnasium, stands on a burning building with a backdrop of skyscrapers and speaks at an official press conference in the White House.

The most noteworthy scene in the music video has to be Roddy Ricch in a clear box on display in a museum. He literally takes the lyrics of his song and aligns them with correlating imagery.

The visual currently has over 8 million views on YouTube, and has been trending on the video platform for the last 24 hours.

“The Box” has garnered the top placement on the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks. The single has been on the Billboard Hot 100 for a total of 11 weeks, and is his only top 10 hit on the listing. Not only is the tune No. 1 on the Hot 100, but the hit single is also in the top spots on the Streaming Songs chart, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and Hot Rap Songs chart.

As previously mentioned, “The Box” is from his 2019 release, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial, which also peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

He recently won a Grammy with the late Nipsey Hussle and Hit-Boy for Best Rap Performance at the 31st annual Grammys Awards for “Racks in the Middle.”
