Rod Stewart joked Brendan Rodgers' imminent return feels like his wife has cheated on him and come crawling back - while the mischievous rockstar quipped he'll be asking Ange Postecoglou for his WINE back after his exit for Tottenham.
The Celtic daft rock sensation was speaking on talkSPORT and revealed he told how he rewarded the former Parkhead boss with a crate of vino every time Celtic beat Rangers under his tutelage. Stewart theorised the exit would have left less of a bitter taste had he announced it in advance - but that left Ally McCoist unconvinced as they discussed his move to Spurs live on talkSPORT.
The first subject on the agenda though was Brendan Rodgers as Sir Rod was asked for his thoughts on the former Leicester boss' imminent return. He said: "I don't know. For me it's like when your wife has left you and gone off with someone else, and now she's come back. That's how I feel about it. But forgive and forget. I think he's the right guy for the job now, he loves attacking football and Ange has left him a wonderfully attacking side."
Then the conversation shifted to Postecoglou and Stewart said he was left "disappointed" with his exit. And he's kept the receipts for his post-derby gifts. Stewart went on: "I'm a little bit disappointed with Ange. Every time he beat Rangers I sent him a crate of wine, but I'm going to ask for it back now. I was hoping he would stay and lead us into another go at the Champions League.
"The one thing I will say about Ange, all this walking about and kissing the shirt... why didn't he tell us before (the Scottish Cup final)? We were never going to lose that game..."
That's when Ally McCoist interjected. "But Rod, do you not think that would have taken the emphasis off the game itself and put it more on Ange?" he asked. "I can understand why he didn't do it, mate. He wants his team and everybody to focus on the game, whereas if he says something like that, maybe the attention goes off the game."
Stewart responded: "If I was in his position I'd be straight up and I'd say 'guys, it's been a great two years, but I've got an offer I can't refuse and I'm going to go down and manage Spurs. We'll win on Saturday and that's it. The Treble'."
Gabriel Agbonlahor then asked the question that will have Celtic fans up and down the country rolling their eyes, wondering whether Postecoglou could come calling to bring key players from his Parkhead tenure south. But Stewart's response to that poser was short and sweet. He retorted: "Well that would make him very unpopular, (especially) if he tries to take Kyogo."
