Rod Stewart to play Durham Cricket Club this summer during Global Hits tour

Legendary rocker Rod Stewart has announced another date with his North East fans for this June, when he will be back in the region on a Summer Tour - part of his Global Hits Tour.

The enduring star is to play Durham's Seat Unique Riverside ground in Chester-le-Street on June 30, it has been revealed, as part of summer series of just six dates, and there will be an early opportunity for pre-sale tickets from Stewart's website this St Valentine's Day. Others will be released for general sale on Friday and there is also an option to sign up for VIP tickets.

Fans can expect a medley of classics and all-time favourites from Sir Rod whose hits include I Am Sailing, Do Ya Think I’m Sexy? and Maggie May. Just recently he wowed crowds at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle where he wrapped up his last tour run in December, in support of the release of his 31st studio album The Tears Of Hercules.

News of his County Durham show follows the recent announcement of a concert at the Riverside by fellow rock legends: The Who will take to the stage there on July 19. Like them, Stewart also will be including a show at Edinburgh Castle during his summer series.

Announcing the shows, he said: "My favourite memories have been summer nights with a beer or two alongside the best fans in the world. I’m impatiently awaiting this summer playing at a variety of special venues - football, cricket and rugby stadiums, estates and castles! "

He added: "We’ll all be dancing under the stars.” For information on the pre-sale tickets, available from February 14, visit Stewart's website and for general sale, from Friday, here.
