Rod Stewart shows love for Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou with tribute during Australian concert

Sir Rod Stewart has shown his love for his favourite football club, and manager, during one of his latest concerts after photos were shared on social media of Ange Postecoglou on the big screen holding the winning Viaplay Cup silverware after Celtic beat Rangers 2-1.

The Maggie May singer took to the Rod Laver Arena stage in Melbourne, Australia last night (March 13) for a sell-out gig and during his performance of You're In My Heart, the Hoops boss appeared behind him smiling from ear to ear celebrating one of his teams latest victories.

Sharing the snap of the concert, one fan tweeted: "Ange front and centre for Rod Stewart You’re In My Heart" with the song itself containing the lyrics: "You're Celtic, United, but baby I've decided. You're the best team I've ever seen."

The 78-year-old, who is a well-known Celtic fan, is currently travelling around the world as part of his The Hits Tour with the appearance from Ange on the big screen coming shortly after the pop star said during an Australian radio station interview what he does after every Celtic win.

During the Aussie interview he admitted: "You must take me to see Ange's house. That would be lovely and I'll send him some pictures. We must arrange that. What a guy he is! Football in this country needed a bit of dignity and he's brought it to us. He's a wonderful man. Every time he beats Rangers I send him six bottles of Australian wine. That's three times now."

Postecoglou moved to Melbourne when he was five-years-old from his Greek homeland and went on to play for and manage South Melbourne.

The Greek-Australian boss has a mutual love for Sir Rod with Postecoglou himself saying it was "very kind of Rod and I know he is a passionate Celtic man" after the singer said the manager was "up there" with European Cup winner Stein, as well as modern day trophy-winners Martin O'Neill and Neil Lennon..

The Celtic boss added: "But I will give you the brief here.

“I will never reach the levels of Jock Stein or Martin. Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon, these guys, have had unbelievable success at this club. It is almost impossible to replicate."

It comes as a host of Celtic stars toasted their Scottish Cup win over Hearts with an Italian meal in Glasgow on Saturday night (March 11) with six players taking to the city for some much needed scran.

Carl Starfelt, Alistair Johnston, Benjamin Siegrist, Jota, Hyeon-Gyu and Matt O'Riley were all snapped at Sarti on Bath Street alongside server Luca on the official Facebook page for the restaurant.
