Rod Stewart lifts lid on Scottish Cup draw antics as Celtic-daft legend reveals he 'p*ssed about'

Celtic-daft Rod Stewart admits his iconic appearance during the Scottish Cup draw was fueled by 'a few bevvies'.

The rock legend was tasked with the honour of drawing the teams out of the hat for the fifth round of the 2016/17 competition and did so while seemingly a tad drunk on air. The Celtic fan was exuberant when lifting the balls out of the bowl, especially when drawing his beloved Hoops, who would go on to win the cup that season, and over-exaggerating the names of the teams in a moment widely-shared over the years.

Stewart admits he got the call to present the draw live after sinking a few drinks but was told to go for it, citing his usual stage ad libbing as a solid basis to get through it. But the 77-year-old revealed he was just 'p*ssing about' and says no Scottish Cup draw will ever match it.

He told Four Four Two: "[I'd] drank a couple of bevvies and Sky asked me if I'd like to do [the draw]. I said, 'Listen, I've had a couple of drinks' and they said it was fine. I'm an ad lib guy and, lo and behold. I just p*ssed about a bit.

"It went around the world and became one of the most high-profile Scottish Cup draws that's ever been [done] and probably ever will be."
