Rod Stewart left Queen looking 'terrified' with awkward concern at charity show

Royals, celebs and members of the public have come together to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, with those who have been lucky enough to meet her during her 70-year reign reminiscing over the special day.

Among them is Rod Stewart, who took to social media to post a sweet tribute and photos of their meetings over the year.

And Maggie May hitmaker also shared a hilarious story about a slightly awkward moment when he was invited to perform a couple of his songs for the Queen at a charity event.

Rod didn't hesitate to be part of something involving Her Majesty, but he remembers being incredibly nervous about gracing the stage and performing in front of royalty - and we don't blame him!

"It was without doubt the most nervous I've ever been," he wrote.

Apparently, the Queen appeared to be just as "terrified" as the 77-year-old in fear of what Rod would be singing from his extensive discography - some of which can be a little bit rude.

"Her Majesty looked somewhat terrified as well, I think she thought I was going to play a loud version of 'Hot Legs' or something(!)," Rod continued.

"But I didn't, choosing instead 'What a Wonderful World' from my American Song Book collection.

"Her Majesty smiled and looked extremely relieved."

Rod released his 32nd studio album The Tears of Hercules in November 2021.

The project debuted at number five on the Official Albums Chart Top 100 and became his first release since 2018's Blood Red Roses.

Ahead of the album's release, Rod embarked on a huge promotional campaign, which included an interview on ITV's Loose Women, where he was joined by his wife Penny Lancaster.

Aside from discussing his new music, the rock icon didn't hold back when admitting that his relationship with his significant other had taken an unusual turn once Penny started going through the menopause.

Rod claimed her symptoms had gotten so bad that he didn't even recognise the woman he married anymore.

He said: "It was frightening because this really wasn't the person I married.

"We talked about it, which I think is the most important thing a couple can do and she explained to me, through the tears as Penny likes a cry, and talked it through and that's what couples have to do.

"Men have got to get on with it, understand and come out the other end."

His daughter Kimberly Stewart announced her engagement to music producer Jesse Shapira earlier this year.

The pair had been dating for three years before Jesse popped the question, with a photo of the special occasion later being posted on Kimberly's Instagram page.

Her caption read: "Forever."
