Rod Stewart baffles fans after 'karaoke' performance of Sweet Caroline at Platinum Party

Rod Stewart has stunned fans after performing what felt like 'karaoke' at the Platinum Party In The Palace.

The 77-year-old Rockstar performed Neil Diamond's hit Sweet Caroline, but viewers were less than impressed by his performance.

For one night only, some of the biggest names in the music industry came out in force to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, which marks Her Majesty's 70 years on the throne.

BBC viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the Maggie May singers song choice.

One said: "I’m a big Sir Rod Stewart fan. But doing a bad karaoke at the #PlatinumPartyatthePalace wasn’t great. Just sing your own hits. You have a few."

Rod's performance divided viewers (BBC)

Another joked: "After Rod murdered sweet Caroline Andrea Bocelli has just smashed Nessun Dorma out the park. #PlatinumPartyatthePalace "

A third ranted: "Has Rod Stewart even heard Sweet Caroline before??? Absolutely dreadful. #PlatinumPartyatthePalace "

A fourth penned: "Nope.. I’m out. Rod ruined it and now my ears are bleeding #PlatinumPartyatthePalace "

A fifth joked: "I’m sure Rod Stewart will receive a warm welcome next time he arrives at Parkhead after singing (well I use the word singing loosely) Sweet Caroline for the Queen at her Platinum Jubilee Concert"

However, not all fans felt the same.

One penned: "Rod Stewart covering Sweet Caroline was a joy! #PlatinumPartyatthePalace "

Another buzzed: "Haters gonna hate but Rod has still got it #PlatinumPartyatthePalace "

A third gushed: "Rod Stewart what a legend! still getting the crowd going"

During an interview with BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty, Rod opened up about his love for Her Majesty.

“I’ve grown up with this woman,” Rod recalled. “I was seven when she came to the throne.

“So, she’s always been part of my life, and the fact that I’ve met her on seven occasions makes it even more important for me.”

“What does she mean to you?” Naga asked him. “You’ve met her on a few occasions, that must have been amazing.”

Rod got a little emotional as he explained: “She’s been so much part of my life, she’s almost like a sister.

“She’s always been in the background of my life”, he added.
