Rockets pretend to be Elon Musk to ensure No. 1 pick in 2022 NBA draft

Even after finishing with the league’s worst record, the Houston Rockets have only a 14.0% chance of securing the No. 1 overall pick in the first round of the 2022 NBA draft. That’s due to the league’s recently flattened lottery odds, which are designed to increase parity and decrease “tanking” efforts from losing teams late in each regular season.

Then again, that calculus is based on the NBA’s current draft lottery odds system. What if it somehow changed?

With billionaire Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk set to acquire Twitter, the Rockets’ official Twitter account got in on the fun Thursday by briefly changing their name and profile picture to mimic Musk’s account.

From there, they tweeted the following:

After I buy Twitter, I’m going to make it illegal for the Houston Rockets not to get the first pick in the 2022 NBA Draft

Based on the reactions from social media, it seemed that most people enjoyed the light-hearted joke. Scroll on for some of the best replies.
