After 43 years on the job in Houston, legendary sportscaster Mark Berman is retiring on Monday, June 12. He has spent most of those years with Fox 26 Houston, where he has broken countless news stories related to the Rockets and other franchises throughout the area.
On Monday night, Houston’s local Fox affiliate will air a one-hour special entitled “Mark Berman: A Houston Sports Legend.” The career retrospective will start at 9:30 p.m. Central.
To commemorate Berman’s final day on the job, the Rockets released a series of video tribute messages from current and former players, coaches and executives showing appreciation for his career.
The video tributes include messages by current and former Rockets such as Rudy Tomjanovich, Joe Stephens, Rafael Stone, Mario Elie, Gerald Green, Tilman Fertitta, Bill Worrell, Yao Ming, Clyde Drexler, Van Chancellor, John Lucas, Chuck Hayes, Robert Horry, Matt Bullard, Jae’Sean Tate, Luis Scola, Calvin Murphy, Gretchen Sheirr, Kevin Porter Jr., Cuttino Mobley, Elvin Hayes and Hakeem Olajuwon.
“The dedication and professionalism you exemplified are unmatched,” Fertitta said in his video comments to Berman. “Everybody who knows sports in Houston knows that.”
The full video can be viewed below, along with Berman’s reaction.
I promised myself I wouldn’t get emotional today & the @HoustonRockets came close to making me break that promise. Thanks so much to @TilmanJFertitta and his family and everyone connected to the Rockets organization, especially their great media relations staff led by @TraceyNBA https://t.co/YMNnNhnDSi
