Rockets injury news: Jae’Sean Tate out weeks with lingering ankle issue

After missing extensive time in Houston’s preseason slate and now 11 of the first 14 games of the club’s 2022-23 regular season, veteran forward Jae’Sean Tate remains sidelined indefinitely for the Rockets and without a clear timetable for return. Tate’s ankle issues trace to the 2022 offseason, and they have not yet been resolved.

After returning briefly for three games in late October, Tate was again shelved with right ankle soreness on Oct. 31 and has missed seven straight games and counting. Prior to Monday’s home game versus the Los Angeles Clippers, head coach Stephen Silas indicated Tate would not be reevaluated for two or three more weeks. From there, given the long layoff, Tate would likely need a ramping up period of physical activity prior to any game action.

Now 27 years old, Tate is averaging 8.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in 22.7 minutes per game. He’s shot 50% overall and 40% on 3-pointers, and the burly 6-foot-5 forward is widely regarded as one of Houston’s best and most versatile defensive players.

Tate being sidelined has opened playing time in Houston’s rotation for rookie forward Tari Eason.
