Rochelle Humes sobs over This Morning's touching gift to terminally ill guest

This Morning host Rochelle Humes burst into tears on the show on Thursday, after the show's touching gift to a terminally ill guest.

Darrell Meekcom, 55, was detained in his back garden, in Kidderminster, by several officers from West Mercia Police after mooning a speed camera as part of his bucket list, in November 2021.

His wife Sarah suggested he plan a bucket list with things he wanted to do before he died, and on this list was mooning a speed camera.

The dad-of-two, who has multiple system atrophy (MSA), was originally arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure and dangerous driving, but went on trial accused of obstructing a constable in the execution of their duty. He has since been cleared.

Two further counts of using threatening behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress were dropped by prosecutors. He was cleared by magistrates on Tuesday (August 2), who found him “not guilty of resisting arrest” and that that his “defence of self-protection has been accepted”.

On Thursday, Darrell appeared on the show with his wife, with his two young daughters waiting at the side of the studio backstage. As Rochelle and co-host Andi Peters interviewed the couple, Darrell discussed his condition and his bucket list, and revealed some of the items on there.

So the team at This Morning decided to try and help him complete the list after his ordeal, and soon offered a basket of gifts including a rugby ball, a Mickey Mouse teddy and a teapot. But each item represented a huge gift from the bucket list, including an afternoon tea at The Ritz in London, and the chance to watch an England rugby match at Twickenham stadium.

One gift on the list then got a huge reaction, and left Darrell's daughters crying at the side of the stage. Andi announced they had been given a holiday at Disneyland Paris, leaving the family thrilled.

As one of the sisters burst into tears, Andi raced over to comfort the pair and gave them the Mickey Mouse teddy. The moment left Rochelle in tears, as Andi then returned to comfort her too, offering her a tissue as she sobbed.

Viewers were also moved by the moment, with one tweeting: "Ahhh how lovely. I'm crying now too." Another said: "Aww the kids are crying, didn’t know they were there." as a third wrote: "Me too @RochelleHumes me too .. I'm proper ugly crying here .. Bless that family and the kids . Oh my heart."

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV Hub.
