Robson Green films in Weardale Valley ahead of second series of Weekend Escapes

Robson Green visited a heritage railway in the North Pennines as he filmed in the Weardale Valley for the second series of Weekends Away.

The Extreme Fishing star, who was born in Hexham, saw his series Weekend Escapes capture the hearts of audiences across the UK earlier this year as he uncovered the North East's hidden gems with a friend from the world of showbiz. Filming for a second season has already begun, with the Weardale Valley his latest destination.

Robson was joined by actor Lee Ingleby, who recently starred in The Hunt for Raoul Moat on ITV, as they explored Hamsterley Forest, took a raft out from the Weardale Adventure Centre and spent the night at Woodcroft Farm. One of the highlights of his trip was the train station at Stanhope, which has been restored by the Auckland Project and is run by volunteers.

The station is one of six along an eighteen mile heritage line connecting Bishop Auckland to Eastgate in Weardale, County Durham, in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is considered one of the most scenic railways journeys in the North East, and appearing on Robson's show will likely give it a much bigger platform than it's had before.

Wayne Dixon, general manager, said: "It was great to have Robson and Lee here to meet the team and see exactly what we do. His love of the great outdoors and our beautiful scenic surroundings was clear for all to see; we had a fantastic day with him, Lee and the crew, I'd like to thank everyone involved."
