Robin Williams' son pays emotional tribute to late actor on what would have been 73rd birthday

Robin Williams’ son has shared an emotional tribute to the actor on what would have been his 73rd birthday.

This year is particularly poignant as it marks 10 years since the Mrs Doubtfire star died age 63 by suicide in 2014.

Taking to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Zak Williams, 41, uploaded a black and white image of the late star who can be smiling in front of a collection of puppets.

Zak - who works as a mental health advocate - captioned the snap: “Dad, on what would be your 73rd birthday, I remember you for all the hope and joy you brought to the world.

“There’s not a week that goes by without someone sharing with me how you helped them through a dark time or a rough patch. I’m so grateful to be your son. Love you forever,” he signed off.

In the months leading up to Williams’ death, he had been struggling with health issues after being misdiagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

The Oscar winner’s autopsy revealed that he had Lewy body dementia, an incurable brain disease.

In addition to Zak, Williams was survived by two other children - Zelda, 34, and Cody, 32, as well as his third wife, Susan Schneider Williams.

Opening up about his health struggles in a documentary Robin’s Wish, which was released six years after his death in 2020, Schneider Williams said: “My husband had unknowingly been battling a deadly disease. Nearly every region of his brain was under attack – he experienced himself disintegrating.”
