Roberto Martinez to Everton latest as Graham Potter confirms position on job links

Everton have offered Roberto Martinez the chance to return as manager and he wants Thierry Henry to join him, according to new reports.

Rafa Benitez was relieved of his duties at Goodison Park, after the recent defeat against Norwich extended the club’s poor run of form to one win in 13 league games.

The ECHO reported on Sunday that current Belgium boss Martinez was under consideration for the role following Benitez’s dismissal.

And now reports indicate Martinez has received an offer to take over at Goodison for the second time.

That’s according to The Athletic who say that the Blues would prefer him to be appointed on an interim basis, prompting discussions over a possible job share with Belgium.

It is claimed that the Belgian FA wish for Martinez’s focus to remain solely on the country’s 2022 World Cup campaign, while the Spanish coach would also like to bring Henry to Everton as his assistant, if he were to be appointed.

An agreement is not said to be close at this stage, with Wayne Rooney also reported to be in the running for the job.

It is claimed that the Belgian FA have "resisted any suggestion of Martinez taking on a role with another club while in charge of the national team".

Meanwhile, Brighton boss Graham Potter has ruled out speculation that he could move on from his role down south.

"I am very happy here, one of the best run clubs in the Premier League, with a fantastic owner, chairman, CEO, sports director, great people at the club,” Potter said in his press conference on Monday.

“A nice environment to work in. An ambitious club. So I just get on with my job here and do my best.

“The reality is I’m at a really good football club that helped me. I’m not here because I’m that good, it’s because I’m at a good club and I have good support, I have good people around me.

“You just can’t help what people write or put out there.”
