Roberto Mancini backs Gianluca Scamacca to adapt to Premier League after talks with West Ham forward

Roberto Mancini believes Gianluca Scamacca will need more time to adapt to the rigours of Premier League football after talks with the West Ham forward.

The Italian international has started only one League game this season after a big money move to east London over the course of the summer and is yet to find the back of the net.

While the Europa Conference League has proven a happier hunting ground for the 23-year-old, few would doubt the start to the domestic season for the club as a whole has been hugely disappointing.

After a busy summer of transfer activity, David Moyes’ side sit in the relegation zone with only four points from seven games and fell to defeat at Everton on Sunday.

Scamacca was handed just 20 minutes at Goodison Park as Michail Antonio continues to lead the line for Moyes, though Mancini insisted there was nothing to panic about.

Speaking to reporters, the former Manchester City boss said: “I spoke to Scamacca. He went to a difficult league.

“I think it will take him some time to adapt. It takes some time to become familiar with the pace of the Premier League, but it is a choice that can help him improve.”
