Roberto Firmino transfer latest: Saudi Arabia 'agreement', medical booked, three-year contract

Liverpool icon Roberto Firmino will officially become a free agent in a matter of days when his contract at Anfield comes to an end after eight years.

It was confirmed before the end of the season that the flamboyant Brazilian would not put pen to paper on improved terms with the Reds as he eyes new opportunities. Jurgen Klopp wanted to keep the forward within the ranks but was left "surprised" when the former TSG Hoffenheim forward expressed his desire not to extend.

Firmino will depart Liverpool leaving a legacy behind him spanning almost a decade after netting 11 goals in 362 appearances. He was a key member of the sides that won six major trophies including the Premier League and Champions League as he netted the winning goal in the Club World Cup final against Flamengo.

The 31-year-old bid farewell to Anfield after scoring the equaliser against Aston Villa in his final home match. He departs alongside four first-team options as James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all become free agents at the beginning of July.

Both Milner and Keita have scored their next clubs with the veteran midfielder reuniting with Adam Lallana at Brighton & Hove Albion. Meanwhile, the Guinean returns to the Bundesliga as he signed terms with Werder Bremen.

With the future of Firmino yet to be decided, the ECHO takes a look at the latest speculation regarding his next club.

Medical prepared

According to Fabrizio Romano, Saudi Arabian outfit Al Ahli are in talks to sign Firmino with negotiations ongoing as they await the player's verdict.

The Brazilian has posted updates throughout the summer of his development as he gets back up to speed ahead of his announcement with many players returning for their respective pre-season in the coming weeks.

In a tweet, Romano said: "[I] Understand Al Ahli are in talks to sign Roberto Firmino. Negotiations ongoing, waiting for player’s final decision.

"Al Ahli are preparing medicals in case they get the green light later this week."

Saudi Pro League agreement

News outlet 90min have reported that Firmino has agreed a deal to move to Saudi Arabia.

The Middle Eastern country are looking to add an influx of talent from European leagues following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo in January. Karim Benzema ended his successful chapter at Real Madrid in order to join reigning champions Al Ittihad with N'Golo Kante joining him from July 1.

Ruben Neves completed his move from Wolves to Al Hilal last week and reports suggest that Chelsea duo Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly could be the next Premier League exports to the country.

In their report, 90min suggest that he is on the cusp of becoming the latest player to move to the Saudi Pro League.

Three-year contract

Another report from Fabrizio Romano suggested that talks were into their final stages over Roberto Firmino's deal.

He claims that a three-year deal has been tabled for the Liverpool attacker and he could be unveiled in conjunction with Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

In a tweet, he said: "Al Ahli are advancing to final stages of Roberto Firmino deal. Three year contract on the table, player side still discussing some details before giving the green light.

"Al Ahli hope to unveil Firmino and Mendy as new signings soon."
