Roberto Firmino masterclass prompts Darwin Nunez question as new Liverpool signings raise level

Just like what Jurgen Klopp said, Liverpool’s 9-0 win over Bournemouth was timely.

It brings some confidence and belief back, because you don’t become a bad team overnight. But how we started the season was not all firing, especially after the defeat to Manchester United - the lack of a performance and conviction - we needed something to put a smile on everyone’s faces.

Liverpool did that. The performance was great, the finishing was great. People can point their fingers at Bournemouth not being at their best, but you still have to score goals.

The completion rate was good and they scored some fantastic goals, which not many teams would have stopped anyway.

Harvey Elliott must have a goals target

Harvey Elliott is going to be nurtured by the manager, we all know the ability he’s got. He knows himself, he’s a very confident lad.

He knows that he has to score goals and create goals as well, that’s what he’s in the team for. He gets the start and a smashing goal, and he played some great final deliveries as well to create chances.

That’s the type of player that he has to be for Liverpool. He has to be looking to score 10 to 13 goals a season from midfield.

Roberto Firmino rolled back the years

It was a terrific performance from Roberto Firmino, too. Whilst Darwin Nunez is suspended, he didn’t take his chances against Man United but he rolled back the years on Saturday.

He was also dropping too deep at Old Trafford, he should have stayed further forward and delve into the pockets. But he took his chances really well and I’m delighted for him.

Everyone respects what he does for Liverpool, and we all want him to do well and hope he can get back to what he was two or three years ago.

When you buy someone like Nunez, he’s going to start most of the games. But in this day and age, it’s a squad thing.

So this is the first season Nunez has been in the Premier League, and he got caught out earlier on. You don’t get wound up by defenders like he did against Crystal Palace.

I’m sure that Nunez is going to be the main man, but if the manager has got loads of options where he can play different players in different positions. I’m sure Firmino will still get plenty of game time.

Future's bright for Fabio Carvalho

It was a cameo appearance for Fabio Carvalho against Bournemouth. When you’re coming on as a substitute, you don’t like to be chasing the game like Liverpool did against Man United - he couldn’t really influence anything in the game when he came on.

But when you’ve got a team dead and buried you can come on and do things, and I thought he did brilliantly. With Carvalho and Elliott, I think we’ll be seeing a lot more of them.

There’s not many other options that Liverpool have got at the moment, with at least 10 players on the sidelines. Maybe Curtis Jones will come back on the bench.

Klopp hasn’t got many options, so he’s pretty much got to stick with what he’s got at the moment. I’m pretty sure that it will be the same team against Newcastle that started against Bournemouth, barring any other injuries.

You don’t want to look too far ahead at the Everton match on Saturday, but it’s a massive game. If Liverpool go to Goodison Park with the same tempo as when they went to Man United, then they will struggle.

That’s one good thing that Klopp will do with his team talk at Goodison on Saturday, is you can just remind them what happened at Old Trafford.

Very passionate fans, they’ll be ready for it at Everton. It will be a red hot atmosphere, so you’ve got to get used to that because the players know it anyway, and remember what Liverpool have done in previous seasons against them.
