Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi has admitted the club cannot be certain that Moises Caicedo will still be their player beyond the end of the January transfer window.
The Seagulls have already agreed to sell Leandro Trossard, with the Belgian set to complete his £26million to Arsenal today, and are therefore reluctant to lose any more stars this month.
Chelsea though are keen on bringing Caicedo to Stamford Bridge, as Graham Potter eyes a reunion with the 21-year-old midfielder.
Brighton have rejected a £55m bid from Chelsea, with that figure below their valuation even if they were looking to sell Caicedo in January. It’s believed they would hold out for a fee of at least £75m.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, De Zerbi made it clear the club do not want to lose the Colombian mid-season, believing it would be better for the player himself to stay, though he did accept he is not fully sure that will be the case.
“Moises is very important for us,” the Italian told reporters.
“It is difficult to change with another player now at this stage. I hope he finishes the season with us, but it’s always difficult to be certain. When big teams want our players, it’s good news for the club.
“The best solution is that he finishes the season with us and for him, in the summer, it’s better then if he changes teams. I don’t know if he will continue to play like this - the last games - it is possible he can leave for another team [in the summer].”
