Italian football legend Roberto Baggio has been hospitalised after being attacked and robbed by armed thugs, according to reports.
The shocking incident took place on Thursday night as he was watching Italy's 1-0 loss to Spain at Euro 2024.
Italian news outlets claim that the former forward, 57, endured a “nightmare” attack that “lasted about forty minutes”.
Baggio allegedly tried to fight off five armed men after they reportedly broke into his property.
Despite his bravery, the star couldn't fend off the attackers, and he and his loved ones were locked in a closet.
The robbers then stole watches and jewellery from his home before Baggio managed to free himself and call the police.
The former forward spent the night in a local hospital and required stitches after the attack, which is now under police investigation.
Baggio is a football icon who played for Italy's three most successful clubs: Juventus, AC Milan, and Inter Milan, winning two Serie A titles during his career.
In 1993, Baggio contributed to Juventus's UEFA Cup victory by scoring two goals in the first leg of the final against Borussia Dortmund.
That year, he was honoured as the FIFA World Player of the Year and awarded the Ballon d'Or.
