Robert Snodgrass to pledge Hearts future as Robbie Neilson reveals new deal for former Scotland star

Hearts are set to be handed a major boost on the back of their biggest league derby win in nearly two decades with the news that Robert Snodgrass is set to sign a new deal.

The former Scotland midfielder penned a one-year contract when he was lured north by Robbie Neilson in September last year and has been a big influence on the Jambos who have climbed back into third place. He was outstanding in the 3-0 win over Hibs – the best in the league since 2005 – and now the 35-year-old is ready to commit to a longer stay at Tynecastle which is great news for the Gorgie club.

Neilson said: “I’ve spoken to him about it. We had a chat about things and both of us are happy so it’s just a case of putting something together for him.

“There are other things we are working on at the moment. I would expect that either during the transfer window or just after it closes we will try and get something done.

“Robert’s family are still down south at the moment so maybe him getting a bit more time here will convince them to come up. I think he still has a good few years left in him to be honest. He looks after himself, he’s fit, strong and he’s been doing great for us."

Hearts, who have a five-point lead over fourth place Aberdeen with a game in hand, take on St Mirren in Paisley on Saturday.
