Robert Snodgrass is weighing up a return to Scottish football with Motherwell. The ex-Scotland star has been in talks over a Fir Park deal and wants to make a decision on his future by the weekend.
A free agent since leaving Luton at the end of last season, Snodgrass has interest from clubs in the Championship and League One in England. But Stevie Hammell’s side are in serious contention for the 34-year-old’s signature. Hammell wants to bolster his squad with experience and quality.
The 34-year-old has been capped 28 times by Scotland and fits the bill perfectly of the new Fir Park boss. Discussions are ongoing over the length of contract, which could be until January or the end of the season with Snodgrass keen to strike a deal soon to resume his high-class career. A young star for Livingston in the Scottish top flight before leaving for Leeds in 2008, he went on to play for Norwich and Hull.
Snodgrass sealed a £10 million switch to West Ham in January 2017. He also featured on loan for Aston Villa in the Championship while at the Hammers. The forward represented West Brom and Luton Town last season in England’s second tier.
The Hatters offered a deal but Snodgrass turned that down in favour of a new challenge. That could now await at Motherwell as new boss Hammell seeks to build on two early Premiership wins.
