The Jacksonville Jaguars will bring back Robert Saleh for a second interview, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
The interview will take place on Friday of this week.
With Ben Johnson no longer in the running with him joining the Chicago Bears as their next head coach, the Jaguars will continue on with their second round of interviews.
Although flying under the radar, there have been a few reports that suggested there was interest from the Jaguars in Saleh.
Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic would report in one article that there was “buzz” around Saleh and the Jaguars. More recently, SI’s Albert Breer would mention Saleh when discussing the Jaguars’ head coaching vacancy.
Saleh was the New York Jets’ head coach from 2021-2024 but was fired after just a handful of games earlier in the season. With the inconsistent quarterback play, Saleh could never get the offense quite right and finished with a record of 20-36 as the Jets head coach with no playoff appearances.
However, despite the issues on the offensive side of the ball, Saleh’s defenses were steadily some of the stingiest in football. Not to mention that Trevor Lawrence’s presence would give Saleh that missing stability at the quarterback position.
While Lawrence said he is biased towards an offensive play-caller given his position, ultimately he wants someone who can be a leader, set the culture, and give the Jaguars an identity.
